Curitiba is the capital city of Parana, one of Brazil's southernmost states; a must-see in this university town is Rua das Flores, one of the city's oldest pedestrian-only streets. You can take a 15-minute stroll and arrive at a place filled with street performers, flower vendors, and restaurants. Listen to a busker ply his trade, then toss him some coins to help finance his next meal before you step into an eatery to order food for yourself.
Even though there are a plethora of places to eat outside the hotel, it's nice to have the option to stay in when you're worn out after a busy day. The Victoria and Aquarius restaurants serve up appealing, modern Brazilian food. You can sip a pre-meal cocktail in the Bel Air bar, or step into the business center to email family back home. If you're not on holiday from your exercise schedule, break a sweat in the fitness room, or take a swim in the outdoor pool, where you can check out the city views between laps. (Warm up in the sauna beforehand.) Mornings, fill up with breakfast (surcharge) in the restaurant. Free secure covered parking is available, and wired and wireless Internet access is complimentary in public areas.
Back in your room, you can break open the minibar for a nightcap. Catch up on emails with free wired Internet access, Rand round-the-clock room service is available to satiate midnight munchies, and you can stash any leftovers in the compact refrigerator. Before sleep, catch the news on the flat-screen LCD TV, and in the morning, tuck your valuables in the in-room safe. Infant beds are also available.
